Email us and we'll get back to you as soon as we can:
To help us find the problem faster, please include:
- Your iPhone model and iOS version
- Your TV brand and model
- Where it goes wrong (scanning, pairing, buttons not responding…)
- Diagnostics: in the app, open Settings → Help, tap Copy diagnostics, and paste it into your email. Diagnostics only contain recent connection activity, with IP addresses partially masked and no text you typed. We only see it if you copy and send it yourself.
Before you start
- You need an iPhone with iOS 17 or later.
- Your iPhone and TV must be on the same Wi‑Fi network.
- The first time you open the app, allow Local Network access when iOS asks.
TapTV can't find my TV
Work through these in order — most issues are solved by the first three:
- Check you're on the same Wi‑Fi
- iPhone: open Settings → Wi‑Fi and confirm you're on your home network, not cellular data or a guest network.
- TV: check its network settings and confirm it's connected to the same router. 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands on the same router are usually fine, but guest networks are usually isolated.
- Allow Local Network access
Open iPhone Settings, scroll down to TapTV, and turn on Local Network. Then go back to the app and tap Scan again. - Make sure the TV is on
The TV needs to be on, or have network standby enabled. - Turn off AP isolation on your router
Sign in to your router's admin page (usually 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1), find AP Isolation, Client Isolation or Device Isolation in the wireless settings, turn it off, save, and scan again. - Pause your VPN
Some VPNs block local network traffic. Turn it off and try again. - Enable mobile control on your TV
Some TVs block phone control by default. See Brand-specific setup below. - Add the TV by IP address
On the scan screen, tap Add manually, choose the brand, enter the TV's IP address, and tap Add & Connect. See How to find your TV's IP address.
Brand-specific setup
Roku / Roku TV
- No pairing needed — once found, it just works.
- If you see "TV blocks phone control": on the Roku, open Settings → System → Advanced system settings → Control by mobile apps and allow network access. The option name varies by Roku OS version — choose Enabled, Default or Permissive, not Limited or Disabled.
Samsung (Tizen)
- The first time you connect, the TV asks whether to allow TapTV. Choose Allow.
- If you chose Deny by mistake: on the TV, go to Settings → General → External Device Manager → Device Connection Manager → Device List, find TapTV, then allow it or delete it and pair again. Menu paths vary slightly by year and model.
Sony Bravia
- Google TV / Android TV models: the TV shows a 6‑character pairing code. Enter it in TapTV.
- Older models: first enable IP control on the TV, usually under Settings → Network → IP Control. Set Authentication to Normal and Pre-Shared Key, choose a Pre-Shared Key (PSK), then enter the same key in TapTV.
LG webOS (experimental)
- The first time you connect, the TV shows a prompt. Choose Allow.
- If no prompt appears, check that LG Connect Apps (or a similar mobile connection option) is turned on in the TV's network settings. Some newer models don't have this option.
Google TV / Android TV (experimental)
- The TV shows a 6‑character pairing code (letters A–F and numbers). Enter it in TapTV, one character per box.
No remote — how do I choose Allow on the TV?
- Use the TV's own buttons: most TVs have buttons or a joystick on the bottom edge, side or back. Use them to move to Allow and confirm.
- Plug in a USB keyboard: move with the arrow keys or Tab, and press Enter to confirm.
- Roku: use the official Roku app on another device as a temporary remote.
On TapTV's pairing screen, tap Pair without a remote for steps specific to your TV brand.
How to find your TV's IP address
In your TV's settings, look under Network or About for the IP address (it looks like 192.168.x.x or 10.0.x.x). Common locations:
| Brand | Where to look |
|---|---|
| Roku | Settings → Network → About |
| Samsung | Settings → General → Network → Network Status |
| LG | Settings → All Settings → Network → Wi‑Fi Connection → Advanced Wi‑Fi |
| Sony | Settings → Network → Network Status |
You can also find the TV in your router's list of connected devices.
Disconnected or "Can't reach"
- When the TV is turned off or goes to sleep, TapTV shows "Can't reach" and keeps trying to reconnect in the background. Once the TV is back on, it usually reconnects within a few seconds.
- Tap Retry on the banner at the top to reconnect right away.
- If the TV's IP address changes (for example after a router restart), TapTV looks for it again automatically.
- A phone usually can't turn on a TV that is fully powered off — use the TV's power button first. Some TVs can be woken over the network when network standby is enabled.
Other questions
Some buttons or features are missing.
Each brand and model exposes different features to phones, and TapTV only shows the controls your TV supports. For example, some TVs don't support keyboard input or launching apps.
How do I remove a saved TV?
Open the TV from your TV list and choose Forget TV. Its pairing credentials and combos are deleted too.
Do I need to pair again on a new iPhone?
Yes. Pairing credentials are stored in the Keychain and are set not to move to other devices through backups, so you'll pair once more on the new phone.
Can it control Apple TV or infrared TVs?
No. For Apple TV, use the Apple TV Remote in Control Center. Infrared-only, non-smart TVs can't be controlled over Wi‑Fi.
Does TapTV collect my data?
No. See the Privacy Policy.
